This only takes once to figure out :-) Go log a workout as if it was today, but change the date pull-downs to any date you wish (they will be set to today by default). After you do it once, please let me know if you need any additional assistance, I'm happy to help!

Hi. What a great place to come to for accountability. Glad y'all are here!

Why is it I tend to sabotage myself upon setting a goal? Ok, so I join this 12-week challenge. It starts on a Sun. Mon I don’t have energy and I slip into old eating patterns. I didn’t “work out” but I did go and stretch for 25 min (this was good). Later I took my grandson to see Ice Age II (it was so-so but trite) at which I decided to eat a medium tub (huge!) of popcorn myself. Later we went out and had beer, poppers and Hot Wing pizza. Goals? What goals? Tue I slept in (go figure) and didn’t go to Boot Camp class (which I enjoy). However! It didn’t continue throughout the week. I ended it on Tue morning because I went to the gym latter and did the boot camp regimen myself. I guess once I had my little tantrum I turned it around. This is good and I’m proud I could. Once Mon was over I did drink my water and eat better, I did exercise, smile and remember that this is my own personal journey toward great health.

I did do 2 more things...I signed up for PF Chang’s ½ Marathon in AZ [1-14-07] with my cousin on Mon night; and on Wed I signed up for a 10 mile run locally, run date: Sep 23. Then last night I came down with the flu and am still feeling the effects today. But! My official ½ marathon training begins tomorrow so I couldn’t have done the flu-thing at a better time, except never! So begins my up and down Week I. Thanks for being there! And I wish you all well, Beverly

Hey Gary: Check this out...it might help in your decision. I literally copied it from Ms. Stephanidis under the 5k section:

"I just ran my first 5k ever last night. I am so proud of myself, even though my time was 37:23! I just started running 2.5 weeks ago...and it's been more of a run/walk, trying to work up to non-stop running. So, I entered the 5k very last minute, not really knowing what to expect. I ended up running a lot more than I thought and now I'm addicted. I've already signed up for my second race on May 28!

Just had to share my excitement. :)"

Catch the excitement! B

Summer, Sounds like you did really well considering all you had going on. I really like the adding fruits and vegies. I'm trying to get them in as snacks (couple carrots here, a celery there, an apple and so on; in other words, I'm trying to sneak in the raw vegies). So if you miss a meal time eat a snack a couple/few hours later maybe.

Are you doing the 26.2? Where is the Marine Corps Marathon? Plus I like your idea of doing both outdoor and indoor runs. Glad you're here in the challenge! Beverly

You people are killing me with that getting up before the crack of dawn to exercise! Of course it's almost 2am and I am up, but am in bed and true confessions I have gums drops in my mouth while I am typing.

I have really been eating more salads but the part about the candy is prob what you will remember.

Well,

a little off the wagon,

Lindy

I'll get better

Hey Lindy, better to be a little off the wagon than no where near it or not even have an idea that it exists!!!!! Us crack-of-dawners couldn't hang with you at nite, that's for sure. It's different for everyone :) I think it helps just writing this stuff down and knowing you guys are out there! Beverly

Thanks for the great words, John. I love "if each week is in some way better than the last..." Progress, making progress and celebrating each others' improvements is what this is all about. Thanks! Beverly

Kaitlin,

For what it's worth you just can't bulk up like a guy. I used to lift on a regular basis and heavy with my husband. You may see muscles building/growing but without tons of time, energy and work you won't ever get huge. Yeah, right you're saying because you feel the difference. So focus on resistance training and elongating your muscles by using lower weights w/many (15-20) reps. Keep an eye on your form to make sure you're working the muscle intended and properly to avoid damage. Add in some pilates and/or yoga which are both focused on long, smooth muscles. I hope this helps. Didn't mean to get preachy! Beverly

You have a polar HR monitor:

hit the lower left button to make sure you are on the main screen

hit the upper right hand button until you see FILE

hit the red start button to select FILE

hit the right top or bottom buttons to scroll through your saved workouts till you find the date.

Also make sure your watch is set to the correct date or it may store it as whatever day it thinks it is. My polar does this all the time. not to worry, its usually still storing your workout, you just may need to scroll through to find it.

if your HR monitor is registering 0 or -- all of the sudden, its most likely due to a bad connection on the chest strap (normally this happens at the beginning of a workout when you are not sweating yet. try adjusting it or just waiting a few minutes) or something has interfered with the signal. With a polar, just take the watch and hold it an inch or so away from the chest strap for a few seconds. This usually will re-sync the watch to the strap and bring it back to normal. I'd say this is a pretty common problem, I experience some sort of loss of connection, OR a HR that is totally excessive (220 +) for a few minutes, and I'm certain this is not from my warmup ;-)

Lets move this particular polar related discussion over to the heart rate monitors section. I'll start a new topic over there just for this.
