Hi! It's Beverly. Gary...ouch, ouch, ouch...sad face. Hang in there! You will see us all at the finish line, stumbling, staggering, falling face forward right there WITH YOU.
I've had a good week. Got in a couple runs, got back into my morning routine (most mornings), got back on the mental trail (thanks, Ms. Kim!). Also started with a chiropractor to put my out of whack self back into whack. Felt whacked the day after tho...better now. Food and water weren't the best but I started moving again. Also signed up for a half marathon on Nov 12, as I've said :)
My best to you all...3 more weeks, 3 more weeks! Let's finish this thing, together and stronger than ever y'all. Kaizen.

Its OK Gary... Its all part of the universe... we all have our ups and down... your pull and your damage are just reminders that you are alive and maybe should modify your activities so you can go year round. I read somewhere that most of us, are slowed down not by accute injuries, but by overuse injuries... so we all just have to modify. I don't try to do the speed that I used to do, but I do the miles. This past week I did a horrific ride to Huntington Beach from Orange. Iy was an afternoon ride which means that the on shore breezes will be in your face during the way to the beach.... It was like hurricane force... instead of turning around cuz I couldn't go that fast... I adjusted and gotter done,

Hi My Fitness Friends! Your messages of inspiration are overwhelming to me. I was really feeling sorry for myself because I missed doing my workout today (family commitments) and I log on to the FJ and read about the setbacks that my friends are dealing with. Thank you for opening my eyes to how lucky I am to know so many wonderful people who are here to share such inspiring messages. I no longer feel sorry for myself but happy to beable to push forward towards my goals. No, I will never give up!! Gary- I will accept my setbacks and move forward! I want to be a winner! As I move into the last three weeks of the challenge I will try and complete all of my planned workouts. I will try and make healthy food choices and drink all my H2O. But most importantly, I will keep Gary's words in my mind and when faced with a set back I will pick myself up and never give up! Progress! Progress! Progress! Not Perfection! In reading these posts I am reminded how different we all are and yet still so similar. In each life some rain must fall, be it warming showers or hurricane gales. Most are in between. Striving toward a goal is not impeded by a setback (learning experience); rather, that learning experience is simply that...an experience from which we learn. Experiences make up our lives. So I'm wondering how we really learn to embrace each experience for what we can learn from it. How do we challenge ourselves to make a disappointment of today not ruin our today and tomorrow (and use our memories of successes to bouy ourselves in these times)?
I think the answer lies in the fact that we choose to grow. So whether our rains be gentle or gale force, we are here for each other with umbrellas, rain gear, a boat, comfort and a cup of good cheer. Our individual lives are our individual journeys; as such, the rocky roads give us true appreciation for the smooth paths. The darkness an appreciation for the light and so on. And because we are bonded in a group of like-minded individuals, those in the light can shine their light on those in need of it. |

Here's a personal first (in years/a decade?) for me: I made it into the pool today. I swam. No goggles (can't find 'em), no kickboard (pool has those I found out), no rhythm (no music!) and a young boy disinterested lifeguard up in the chair who obviously didn't want to be there, but I swam. Not well and not far (didn't actually count) but went for about 30 minutes. Since I've been avoiding the pool like the plague (I do not know why) this was a big deal for me. Today I'm going to buy some new goggles (not to be confused with googles, which, hey! gives me the giggles). ttfn |

Don't give up Gary my friend, you will be fine-it will just take awhile.
BELIEVE. Meanwhile enjoy your wife and do your Christmas shopping early, watch the baseball playoffs. Enjoy and make use of this time as you may not have another opportunity like this. I know you are kicking and screaming now but it will pass.
