The Thunderstorms from yesterday seemed to follow us as we made our way to the grand canyon. We made our way to the grand lookout trail point on the south ridge and then climbed down over 2500 vertical feet into the canyon in just 2.5 miles. This is a STEEP lonely climb that is in stark contrast to the huge tourist crowds up on the rim of the canyon. After a drop of just a hundred feet we were alone on the trail with no other foot traffic in site.

This is a remarkable hike that I'd recommend to anyone who wants a true grand canyon experience. The smells of the rocks and dirt and sage that line the canyon are well worth the trip, not to mention the unique views!

In some places the edge of the trail drops off hundreds of feet. Certainly not your typical hiking trail!

You could hear the thunder as it echoed off the walls. A single clap of thunder would echo for tens of times.

The trail we took does not lead all the way to the valley floor, but it does provide a very personal and unique perspective on what its like to actually be within the canyon.

One final note on our travels for this day. After leaving the canyon, we headed west and then north on 93, which took us over the Hoover Dam. We did not take any pictures at the time due to the incredibly violent thunder storms that were in the area. There were lightning strikes all over as we made our way over the dam, headed to Las Vegas!

Very Nice, welcome to Monsoon Season. That one shot of the trail looks a bit scary.
