I recently did a concept 2 rowing workout and the calories burnt only came to 38. I repeated the exact same workout a few days later with an increase of just 30meters. Everything else was exactly the same as the previous workout. However the estimated calories burnt was only 14. How can this be? Also the C2 machine displayed a calorie expenditure of 150 and these machines are renowned for thier accuracy. Im slowly losing confidence with FJ.

I think the 'calories burnt' could be based on a specific body type- e.g. male, weighing 75kg or something. It is impossible to tell if something you input was correct or not from your description, but I think if you really want to get an indication of your calories burnt, don't just use FJ, use a heart rate monitor. I started off using FJ, but found that the calories burnt was not matching my HRM. As a 62kg female, the automatic calories burnt that FJ estimated for my workouts was about 15% higher than the amount on my HRM. On a HRM you can input your gender, weight, height etc, and this should give you a more accurate reading. I use my HRM and not the automatic FJ estimate. If you think the C2 machine is more accurate, then input those calories burnt into your workout journal. You've got to remember this is a tool, not a customised application set up solely for yourself- it can't be perfect.

Thanks Chelsea, Id not thought of it like that. I was thinking of going back to my written journal. I like to track my progress in weight-training exercises such as squat and deadlift but there is no facility to do this in FJ although its great for tracking distance activities and the i phone app is great.
