Hi there. I just started using the "detailed" food journal today, and I seem to be having an issue.

I read through some old discussions and think I understand why my custom food values have changed after I've added the nutritional info (something to do with grams and USDA values). However, I know for sure that my "total fat" count on the overview is showing wrong, and possibly other parts of the breakdown? I've gone back to one of my custom foods several times to make sure I entered info (like the fat content) properly, and I have. However, the food journal thinks I've only consumed 4 grams of fat so far today. This cannot be, unfortunately, because my 1/4 c. serving of trek mix alone had 9 grams. Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong. Thanks!

Follow up to my earlier post:

Ok, there seem to be more bugs here than I thought. Here's what I'm finding:

#1 The "automatic" changes made to my custom foods after I save them are very, very wrong. I don't know why this is happening. It hasn't happened with all the foods I've entered, but at least 1/2 of the ones entered today were reconfigured by FJ somehow and ended up with very faulty info because of this.

#2 When I edit my custom foods, the amounts for various nutritional breakdowns (like saturated fats, sugars, sodium, etc.) do not show up properly when I click on the food later (after saving). To clarify: If I click on "edit" for a custom food, all the information I've edited shows up properly. However, if I click on the name of the food in my "food list," the information that shows up for that food is not the same as the info I put in. This would apparently explain why my totals in my overview summary are wrong.

Please help with these matters!

Chris and Sara,

I noticed the same problem. It looks like the food journal is adding up the totals in the sat, mono and poly fat columns to get the total fat number. The problem is that I may not know the individual fat breakdowns for a custom food but do know the total fat.

I noticed when I would only enter a number in the total fat column for a custom food...I would have a zero in the total fat column for the main food journal.

I am having the same problems. I enter something in ounces, then it converts to grams and triples all the carb, prot values etc. I've tried several times and it is inaccurate.

There is in fact a display problem. I'm working to correct this problem and will report back once the problem is resolved. I expect to have this taken care of by end of day today.

Still struggling with the detailed food journal. Seems to still have a major bug. Tried to put in a tsp of butter. We only have the option of ounces and grams, neither of which apply. Can you please add many other portion options like tsp, tablespoons, cup, etc? Every time I put something in ounces, it changes it to grams, then all the values are changed and therefore incorrect. Most of the items I have entered turn out incorrect even though I know I am adding the values perfectly. Is anyone else having trouble?

Also Chris, when doing a food search, when the list comes up it is almost impossible to find a simple item. Ie go look up butter. Takes forever to find a simple tsp of butter. There are also so many items that are measured as a UNIT (rather than oz), ie chicken etc. Who knows what a unit is?? Can you please allow every search to be alphabetized, and to ask people to put the core word at the beginning, ie, JELLY, Trader Joes Blueberry. Would help a LOT to find foods in the lists.

Thanks very much!

I've had some success in resolving this. The EDIT screen was not displaying values correctly to start, causing a problem of double or triple values in some instances. This may have occurred in the last update. If you are seeing incorrect values with a particular item you entered, click on EDIT and check your values to make sure they are correct. All values entered in the edit screen will now stay put.

In addition to this, there was a second bug associated with the display of total fats on the overview page. This was showing the value of the last item in the list and not the total overall fat summary. This is also resolved. I'm going to check in with each of you independently to make sure I've covered your problems. if not, I'll work with you directly to make sure you are satisfied with the results. Thanks for reporting your bug here.

Chris, Thanks for working on this set of bugs. I really appreciate it! I also agree with the comments Sheryl made about finding simple foods, "units" (I had the exact same reaction: "What the heck is a 'unit'?"), and maybe having a mandatory format for entering custom food names.

The other thing that would be really useful is to have the foods come up as links when you go to do a food search. Right now I have to add a food to my own food list from the main food database, and then click the link then from my food list to see the stats on that food. I need to do this to see if it's even remotely close to what I have eaten. During the past few days, I've added, deleted, re-searched, added, deleted, etc. a number of foods from the main database because I couldn't see their stats before adding them to my own personal food list. Being able to click on a food directly from the search list to see the stats there would streamline things considerably.

Thanks for all you do for us, Chris! I'm looking forward to starting my 3rd year with FJ. :)

Sara:

Just for you, I've added a link to the food info pages from search. You can now just click on the food title to see the info without needing to add it to your list first. Great idea, hope it saves you some time!

Chris

Not sure what's going on but when I add (quantities) the same food during the day - it does not count it properly (calories) - If I sum it up myself (quantities) then the calories count is fine
