Hey Janet, you have made progress since your fibromylagia isn't keeping you in bed this time :) :) :) You're also a great motivator!

Although I didn't make the most of week 3, I did plan an awesome week 4. On my calandar has been marked "begin running" on Feb 12...since January. So I'm back in the race tomorrow. I am excited and ready. So here are my week 4 goals:

Watch my food consumption to meet my goal of 'By the end of February weigh under 130'. Eat more fresh foods, at least 2 servings fruits/vegies a day. FOOD AS FUEL, log food consumption and vitamins each day.

Begin running (walk/jog 1.5 mi to start)...Go to the gym every morning Mon-Fri...Exercise a minimum of 6 hours per week (following schedule). Includes weight training.

Drink 48-80 ounces of water each day.

Catch the fitness and healthy lifestyle spirals and keep them developing!

Happy Valentine's Day to all my sweeties out there!!!!! I hope everyone has an excellent week! Beverly

Some quotes to keep us going:

"I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances." Martha Washington (1732 - 1802)

"A strong positive mental attitude will create more miracles than any wonder drug." Patricia Neal

"Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives." and "The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind." William James (1842 - 1910)

See you on the mental trail :) (remember this one you oldies?)

Hey Ricky! Think anyone else would mind if you put a sock in it [the M&M machine]? Besides, those little guys are, well, little. Big-strong-you can't be overcome by teeny-tiny-them :) Way to go! Pretty soon you might not even think of them as M&Ms; they could be W&Ws (YUK and who wants those?????)

I'm going to eat breakfast next, Marlene! I did eat my banana and a piece of pumpernickle bread b4 I left.... Between you and Janet I'll be whipped (lovingly, I'm sure!) into shape in no time! :) BUT NOTICE, I did go to the gym this morning!!!! Did I see all of you there that wished to attend? I even got a whole mile of jogging in (everybody say, oooooooooooooooh). 1st since the pf and am all right so far :) Adding stretching to my routine tonight.

Y'all hang in there. Checking in is what's kept me sane and somewhat grounded as I wallowed (I didn't keep moving) :) And Marlene is right, Gary. Whoa... I think I just typed a freudian slip...[but being anal I did correct it] I typed Garu instead of Gary, that's, well, it's almost like G U R U, whoa. And you are our leader! What do you think that means? Something, like, really cosmic? I think so. Go for a run Gary it could be your best ever!

My week was so so over all. Treadmill was down for a couple of days which was bad but I finished a half with my niece which was good but was next to the last in my age group which was bad but my time was 3 minutes faster than last year which was good but I snacked like I had finished a marathon which was bad but rested and re hydrated which was good but didn't do any exercise except snack which was bad but got the treadmill going again which was good......I think that's 4 bad + 4 good = so so. Want to get back to my 3 a days this week and stay busy so the snack monster can't rear its ugly head....did I read something about M & M's.....mmmmmmmm......ok ok got to be good got to be good! Feel the force bob....the force of your pants getting tighter if you give in..........

Why indeed?! Unless one is 'naturally' thin (meaning they have a great metabolism or have 'learned' the life habits early on) so many of us say this. I do. Friends do. What is it? Sabotage? Relaxation? Perhaps it's as simple as we just haven't made maintaining our weight levels a habit yet and we love to eat. Back to that ol' moderation thing again! Drat. Where's my magic wand!!!! I do so want one.

And, Ricky, thanks for the kudos on the whoo-hoo one mile :)

I had a truly unique experience. The first ever since I have began running. It all started last night when our on again off again treadmill was off...again So instead of my comfortable (turn on the air conditioner, ceiling fan, floor fan, and TV or radio)Tuesday / Thursday treadmill run I decided to, if only for one brief morning, act like a real runner and head outside. After realizing that there was no start button to push and that the street wasn't going to start moving by itself I headed out. This particular morning the wind was seemingly a few miles per hour short of a category tornado and the temperature 40 degrees. Understanding that in Big D most drive as if the width of a street determines the speed limit (each lane = 35 mph). I decided I would mostly stay on the 50 year old side walks As is typical these sidewalks could also double for a section in a carnival fun house. So onward I trudged with only the occasional street light flickering in the pre dawn hours. After getting lost (as is my propensity) but only once and having to traverse through a grassy field (what I call 4 wheeling) I returned home safely with a new found appreciation for those morning warriors who brave the elements and cars to accomplish their goals. My appreciation was only exceeded by the soreness from the many hills in our area.............man....I hope the treadmill is fixed.

Good Evening All!

For the last week, I actually lost 1/2 pound which surprised me since I wasn't doing anything but hanging out on the couch. The doctor finally took pity on me and gave me antibiotics for the nasty little sinus infection I managed to get in the middle of everything else. The world is a bright place again!

I even managed to do some core training last night and I was able to cycle for 3 1/2 miles at lunch today. I am so excited to be able to exercise again.

My goals for this week:

Lose 1 pound.

Perform Cardio 3 times this week to start building back up from being sick for so long.

Drink at least 60 Oz of water a day.

Not get sick again!

Everyone is doing great!

Teresa

What a great web site and a nice community you have going here! I am new to FJ this year, and it has helped motivate me to keep the effort up through our long winters here in the North Country.

As for weight, Im afraid I will be working on this for 4 times 12 weeks, probably! I started the year heavier than I have ever been in my life and made a goal to drop 52 pounds in 52 weeks. I have lost 17 pounds so far since Jan. 1 and would like to drop 15 more by April 7 (the end of the semester on our campus). Pretty soon I will be arriving at weight I have had on for quite a while, so I realize it will get much tougher. Something like this could help hold my feet to the fire when I have to start chipping off ounces with a chisel!

This is a great idea, Gary – thanks! I look forward to reading everyones’ success stories every week and hope I will end up tossing in a few of my own. I would enjoy hearing from anyone with advice on how to succeed in that second phase of weight loss as well as getting to know many of you better as we all pursue our goals.

For Liv (et al) found this on the motivation section of the home page:

Shake it off. You botched something last week? Don't let it drag you down. Be aggressive and make every day a new beginning. - Donald Trump

I would add, make every hour a new beginning if you need also (minute?)
