Chris - i'm also a web developer and athlete. If you need QA or testing assistance, I can volunteer my time. |

I appreciate that Brett. I'm always looking for people for pre-launch testing of different functions and features for the site. While it may appear that features pop out of nowhere, there is actually quite a bit that goes on behind the scenes, sometimes for months and months before features ever see your journal. Its great to have members from all backgrounds who are willing to participate in the world of bleeding edge features. Thanks! |

Chris - I know how it is. We have intense QA before launching anything - i'm sure it's the same for you.
Out of curiosity - who does your design and CSS? It's very nice and asthetically clean - bravo! |

I'm actually (nearly) a one man show. I do everything including the design, programming, database, hardware, writing, accounting, advertising, marketing, customer service and required research and QA. I of course rely heavily on the incredible feedback of the fantastic fitnessjournal.com community :-) Your positive comments (and even critical reviews) make an incredible difference in the end result.
UI Credit also is shared with my good friend Dimitri Dubrovin who takes my design ideas to the next level. He is the best icon guy I've ever met and I'm honored to know him and work with him.
I do work with small groups of members when building utilities, and testing before launch. A member may suggest a special tool or utility for their own personal use, I will work directly with this individual to make sure I am able to properly fulfill their suggestion. I will continue working and consulting with members over time to make sure tools are working the way the were originally requested.

You truly are a one man show. Wow. What kind of backend are you running on the db side?
I applaud your efforts. I know as a programmer and athlete that time is not easy for us. Give props to Dimitri as well - his icons really are spectaular. Keep up the great work. |

I'm using a custom built perl engine. The databases are all Mysql. The entire system runs apple xserves. The perl engine is designed by me to provide incredibly fast production. All of the necessary features are built into the engine itself, so a unique utility can be easily be designed and incorporated in the system without replicating a single line of code from page to page - which is fantastic.
While there is a small use of style sheets, a majority of the template information is stored in global configuration files and can allow incredible control over the site interfaces.
The external site is cool, in that its dynamically generated static pages. All content is stored in a db table, and on modification, a new static html page is created. This allows all the advantages of static pages for performance, but still provides the flexibility to control the content dynamically. Very helpful for SEO.
Lots of great features coming up! |
