Okay, I am new to this but I got really intrested in your alls discussion because I am training for a 1/2 Marathon myself. I think there is something about this time of year. I don't feel well either. I tryed to go run this morning and ended up walking for 2 miles and only jogging for 2 miles. Which is fine I guess since my run was only supposed to be a 4 miler, but it was supposed to be a really fast run. Oh well... at least I was out there. I am in college so sometimes I really have a hard time getting the time in. Kind of stinks when I have the time, but my body won't go.

Oh well... good luck everyone!!!

Vicky

By the way does anyone know of a race this winter in the Southwest VA area? I am training, but don't have a race to run in... I am actually going to run a marathon in the spring, but I want to train for a 1/2 first. I will run it just on my own if I have to, but it would be much more fun if I had an actaul race to run in.

Great job all of you! You go Denise! Trail running, how great Alison! No pain, lots of gain this week, eh Jim? Very excellent! I got in an 8 mile run. I pulled a muscle in my bum and can't quite figure out how to put it back. I didn't run for over a week. Been stretching and sat in the hot tub and got a massage...all helped for a bit. Any suggestions? Sun I got in 8.4 miles, next Sun is 10 (w/runs scheduled W and F in between). Cross training today and Th. Any helpful thoughts on the bum muscle would be appreciated.

Jim, 110 miles on the bike! Wow, my bum is sore for yours! (Spoken like a runner, eh?) I've been out w/the crud. Getting better so starting back tomorrow. Meanwhile, I have a half marathon to 'run' on Nov. 12. It will definitely be a run-walk deal at this point :) But, I will finish, dedicating mile 13 to you all.

Question, what's a sprint tri? Thanks!

Hey all (Melissa, near my neck of the woods, fyi, it is you'se guys or you'ins! Just in case you want to expand your lingo vocab ha!)

OK.

Jim, Thanks so much for the primer in tri's. I really learned a lot and think, hmmm, maybe I could do a sprint tri! Thanks. BTW, What was the deal w/the bike pic? Did you eat your heart out? (Gosh, I hope not, sounds a bit painful!)

Melissa, I totally get the up and down commitment w/the running. I think we work in phases in life. The biggest things I got from your 2 most recent posts are your overall commitment to your fitness and you do really like running when you're in the groove. So groove on baby!

Alison, you are an inspiration! How did you get started in the tri action? Were you a swimmer first? Runner? I'd love to read your story :)

What's going on w/you Denise?

I haven't been running, nor moving, for the past 10 days...down w/crud (went into my chest and zappo) so I worked on my iPod adding songs. I do have a half coming up Nov. 12, which I've confirmed walking is ok. I will finish it but I've got so few miles logged of late. I was slated to run 14 this next Sunday but I'm kind of stuck on what to do to prepare, what w/the setback. Any suggestions?

Hope you all have a terrific week! Beverly

Hey everyone. I have not posted in quite a while because I had a lot going on these past two weeks and have not really been able to train like I wanted to. But, I am back at it and I did a shorter run this morning with my weights. I am just goint to do some easy runs this week and then next week pick up were I left off. I have regestered for a 1/2 marathon in the spring. I wanted to do a marathon, but I have a bunch of friends running the 1/2 marathon so we joined as a team. I think it should be fun to run like this. We can get a trophy if we are one of the first 3 teams. I don't know if we stand a chance, but it will be fun and doing it as a team we can help each other train and keep each other on track.

Well, have a good week everyone!!

Melissa, YOU ROCK!

Haven't been able to run of late due to the bummer of a bum. Doc said about 3-6 more weeks to get it healed. Meanwhile, it's the Precor and swimming. Might take a boot camp class too. I love reading about each of your successes and wish I was out there with you! Keep it going!!!

Hey Melissa! I'm trying to figure it all out myself :) Once I get myself into the pool I like it. I find myself remembering swim classes from college (decades ago!) and it just kind-of comes back. I am not very good but then, a lot of folk aren't technically correct from what I've seen. Someday I'll be as good as Robin and maybe attempt the Butterfly! Like I said, I think the key is to view it as cross training and to get in the pool and flounder (ha, fish...flounder...pool, water! hahahaha) a bit until it feels more natural. Your thoughts? Beverly

Great Jim! How did your body feel the few days following the marathon? Great job. I am smiling for you. My running begins again next week. Easing into it to prepare for Jan 14 Half. Seriously, Jim, give us more details on how the marathon went? What was best besides finishing? What will you do differently for the next one besides not hurt yourself. What was your toughest moment[s] and what got you through it/them? Thanks!

Melissa, get yourself checked out girl!

You're thinking, "if I can do a half, why not a full?" And why not indeed! See how your training goes, listen to the not-so-ol' bod :) and enjoy it! I bet you can do it Denise....
