Here's my challenge...getting through the Season without the weight gain and getting back to the gym.

1. Watch food intake...save the splurges for events/special days, not every day!

2. Limit sugar intake (exception, honey in moderation).

3. Drink 6+ glasses water/day (8 oz)

4. Go to gym 4x/wk...30+ min cardio, 15 min weights, 5 min stretch.

That's it! Feel free to join me with your own challenge!

Merry Christmas to all!!

Beverly

Day 2: sometimes the toughest day for us but it was all right! Up n Adam (actually, up n Dan, my dear husband who just gets up when he sets his alarm...thank you honey!). So we made it to the gym this morning, no bad eating yesterday (although did have some sugar besides the honey in my tea...moderation!). Drank all my water. Foot relatively ok; tired today though. Also made it through the day with green tea instead of coffee (a feat in itself!). Now to reflect...

Went to a new dentist. Turns out all my prior years of bad habits, genetics (osteoporosis) and teeth clenching/grinding are wearing down my jaw (2 crowns needed for a cracked tooth and almost broken tooth--sad face). So while it won't make the world of difference I need to at least plateau by doing bone-building, not bone-decreasing, habits. Coffee/soda worse choices than green tea. Refined flours worse than whole grains. Sedentary lifestyle worse than moving. Et cetera. Will be glad to start 2019, on a number of levels, but slipped into old habits of too much sugar, minor (yay) binge eating, not enough sleep and have put on 9 pounds, about 8% increase (brave enough to weigh myself this morning). Much of it brought on by stress, both chronic and acute. Since I "got through" the acute stress amazingly well I fulfilled another life-pattern of getting-through then collapsing. Again, (yay) since it was on a much smaller scale (this time 10 pounds over 5 weeks instead of a week or two).

I give myself props for the spiral being 1. shorter in duration, 2. less intense in bad activities, and 3. with less damaging 'self-flagellation' than previous ones. Perhaps, in my 50s, I am learning to be kinder to this person. :)

Day 3; made it to the gym. Eating not so great but progress, not perfection.

Hey Beverly,

Sounds like you have put your mind to it, keep it up and you'll eventually reach your goals, I'm sure of it:)

I have set myself some goals as well. They are more or less daunting, one of them being: passing a personal trainer certification...in MARCH 2019!

I'm not extremely fit but am working on it... I have many fears, my biggest one being that right now I don't LOOK like a personal trainer... I am overweight (by about 15kgs I'd say) and I really need to improve my strength to be credible and genuine.

It's been a long journey and I can't help wanting this so I finally decided to try at least. Apart from my personal trainer (and my husband of course) I don't have a lot of support... so sometimes it's hard to stay motivated and focused.

I try to remember that a bad day doesn't jeopardise what I've been working on for months. You are so right when you say it's about progress and not perfection.

Thank you for sharing,

Vanessa

Hi Vanessa! Nice to see you here and good luck as you continue on your journey! Another saying of mine (given to me by a friend) is, it's none of your business what anyone else thinks! So don't worry about the nay-sayers m'dear and keep on with your progress!

Went to gym yesterday. Foot acting up bad. Sad face. It may be time for surgery because it's not going away (Morton's Neuroma). Today I write this as I leisurely ride on a stationary recumbent bike. I came to gym with my husband to support his post-surgery quest to get his life back after ascending aortic aneurysm! Have rowed, walked and done weights 4 days in a row after months of nothing. Body is tired. After 30-40 minutes will do core and stretch. Later I shall shovel snow at my aunt & uncle's (they're 88 yrs old).

Progress, not Perfection continues...

Back at it! This week includes getting 2 crowns, hanging out with Grandson Cody (who loves KFC) and power shopping for Christmas. Peace on earth!

Progress, not perfection

Tough morning getting to gym. Also not looking forward to getting 2 crowns started today. Sigh. Having said this, I made it to the gym and while my cardio was mediocre at best the weight session good. Foot screaming...very sad face. Maybe I ought to just do the flippin surgery??????????? It's back to being bad. Heavy sigh, what to do, what to do.

K, brighter outlook today. Talked to pod; foot a bit over used but biggest thing is: did metatarsal pad slip? No, but it is flattened. Hmm. Moved r foot pad to left and no twinges today. YAY! Don't want surgery, don't want surgery...

Good gym on the weight front 2 days in a row. Water pretty good. Food pretty good (a bit too much sugar). Mouth sore from dentist but can still wear splint (another yay). Down a pound.
