It seems very quiet on here since I was last on. It seems a shame not to be supporting each other, especially if people are working at a lower level than 'athlete', although we're all athlete's if we're getting out there and doing something!!!

Hi Gerry - how are you doing? I can't believe how quiet the site is!! There seemed to be a lot more people chatting and sharing information when I was active on here before!

What sport are you doing at the moment? I like running but have just injured my achilles yet again, so having treatment. I'm cross training by going on my exercise bike, rowing machine and swimming. I'm hoping to join a rowing club this month and actually row on the water!!!! I went to a taster session and it was great fun - although I have to admit that I ran into a boat (well it is in a marina!!).

I think some of us are chatting over at the challenges, but agree there are far fewer comments on the board than there used to be.

Do you think it's because everyone's doing their own thing and not really interested in chatting with others? Or is it more that they're more interested in the challenges as you said? There doesn't seem to be an awful lot of activity on there either from what I can see!!

They should be out there getting healthy!!! LOL

I usually exercise first thing in the morning - I get up about 6 and do 45-60 mins before I take the dogs out and go to work. I struggle to be motivated when I get back in, although I am trying to get myself to go swimming in the evening. I've just joined up for a 'virtual' English Channel swim, which is swimming the equivalent of the english channel (about 24 miles) over a 3 month period (09/13/10 - 12/05/10) in my local swimming pool. It's called 'Swim IT with Dave'!!

My achilles is still bugging me - I want to go running because I'm trying to lose some weight - well a bit more than 'some' really!!!!

I have an exercise bike and rowing machine at home (bought from ebay!), so at the moment I go on them alternate days, usually do a boxing session from my Wii afterwards and have been trying to increase my swimming (although I've only just started going regularly again), so I am trying!!! being careful with what I eat as well but trying to be sensible!! I need to do something like Yoga or Pilates to get the flex/stretch, but that seems to be difficult to fit in!!! LOL

Maybe that's part of it Alex, although I don't necessarily think that it's the easiest site I've seen to chat on!!! Like you, the fact that I can log my training easily is the main factor for coming on the site, but it never hurts to see if anyone has any advice!! And talking about different sports might be something that enthuses you to give something new a try too. Underneath it all, people have similar issues whatever the sport - the motivation to keep on going on those difficult days, getting injured, managing to fit everything you want to do in, etc!!!! And there's always that competitive spirit.....!!!

Gerry, that's great that you've lost enough weight to have to get rid of your clothes!! That's what I want to do! I lost quite a lot before but put it on again following a minor op when I couldn't exercise for quite a while. I mostly go to the gym to swim but I do use my bike and rower at home. It definitely isn't a clothes hanger in my house!! I like the fact that I can just get up and do what I need to do and still monitor what else is going on in the house!!!!

Just adding my two cents as well -- I too enjoy this site for the visual of my activity as it gives me more motivation. I love checking all the charts and graphs and being able to challenge myself to beat last years hours of exercise and things like that, or even when I've been MIA for a while i directly see why I've gained weight and it forces me to get back into it quicker.

I try and join the chats every now and again, but find i'm not very good at keeping up with the conversation (especially when I'm busy at work since it's the 5 minutes of free time that I usually check it since I'm on a computer all day). But I do find it a wealth of knowledge when you run into a hurdle and everyone gives GREAT advice.

I also found, that the level of "athletes" are much higher than most other sites I've seen where it's motivating to see how people are training for triathalons etc. and you find out where they started from and realize that those goals are actually attainable. It's really motivating and makes me ramp up my own efforts.

I agree Tania - it's very much seeing that things can be done and it's sometimes only one or two steps further than what you've already been doing. Not many of my friends exercise regularly and, if they do, it tends to be for half an hour every so often. It's encouraging when people are exercising a similar amount to you or more and you aren't that strange after all!!!!

Well I've been away for a week but still managed to keep up some activity - went swimming every day while I was away. Off to see the osteopath about my achilles tomorrow, although not expecting him to say I can start running again yet as it's still uncomfortable at times. :-(

Hi Linda and Marina. Good to see you on here!!!

Gerry - my osteo has finally said that I can try running - but now I'm anxious about going in case I set it all off again!!!! Going to start really slowly and not push it at all!

Hey well done Linda - you sound as if you're hooked already!! You'll soon be doing a marathon!!!!

I'm in the middle of a swimming challenge to swim the equivalent of the English Channel (22 miles) in 12 weeks. I'm about on target, so I should complete it on time. I've never swum so much in such a short period of time!!!

Perhaps you should go and see someone about your knee - maybe they could sort it out so you could run!!

I've been rowing today with a local club - went in a four boat. It was really good and we all enjoyed it. Got soaked though as it decided to rain!!

Went running this morning for the first time in months. I've been a bit anxious about going even though my osteopath said that I could give it a try!! Didn't go far but no after effects at the moment!!
