Hi! I am trying to run a marathon next spring and a 1/2 marathon this winter. I am doing really well with the running part, but I have heard that weight training might also help. Please let me know if you know any good sites or programs.

Thanks!!!

Not knowing where you're at with the weights or the running, Victoria (one of my FAV names btw) I'd recommend that no matter where you are, not a lot of focus on the legs or it can interfere with the running. Cross training every other day is good too...swimming, walking, elliptical, etc. Check out Jeff Galloway's Book on Running too. Great info! Keep us posted, Beverly

Depending on how much you run, I actually weight train my legs pretty hard up to 8 weeks before a marathon or half marathon. Some sites with information:

https://www.fitnesssports.com/Strengthtraing.html

https://www.time-to-run.com/strength/why.htm

https://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_1/a-new-approach-to-strengt.shtml

https://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm

Good luck with your training program and your 1/2. Which one are you running?

Thanks everyone for your help.

Here is some more infomation. I am in the military (National Guard) so I run quite a bit. Usually around 20 miles a week. I also have quite a bit of experence wieght training. If fact at one point I planned on doing a figure competition, but I got very sick and had to have surgery in the middle of my program. When I got better I decided I wanted to focue more on running. (I think it is better for you anyway) So right now, I run about 20-25 miles a week. I know a lot about weight training form a bodybuilding/figure point of view, but I don't think that is the kind of weight training I need to do right now. So if anyone has any advice, now know more about where I stand, please let me know.

Thanks again...
