Fitness Journal acquires domain FitnessJournal.com
May 5th 2006
SONOMA CA: FitnessJournal, the online health and fitness website acquired the domain name FitnessJournal.COM in an online auction. Fitness Journal allows members to track their health and fitness for a subscription fee.
"When I first built fitness journal, the .com extension was unavailable” said Chris Watson, the founder of the online business. "All attempts to contact the original owner failed and I was forced to wait for the domain name to go to auction”.
"After all the work that when into the program, obtaining the .com extension became a high priority. The name was held by network solutions and went into auction in the SnapNames auction system. The auction was fairly aggressive with over 30 individuals pre-registering for the auction bidding."
FitnessJournal.com was purchased with the winning bid by Watson and the name was promptly pointed to the site within 48 hours of winning the auction. The final price for the domain name was $2,060. “I have never paid that amount of money for a domain name before, however considering how popular the community has become, it was well worth the price.”
Fitness Journal launched on May 1st 2004 as fitnessjournal.com. The company will transition its business to .com over the next year.
